With the hounds of hell coming after you
I’ve got blood, I’ve got blood on my name
When the fires, when the fires are consuming you
And your sacred stars won’t be guiding you
I’ve got blood, I’ve got blood on my name”

Final Fantasy X OSTFinal Battle.

๏๏ς;

I honestly have a lot of feelings about this track.
It starts off as you’d expect, all foreboding build-up, but it quickly turns into a kind of panicked, semi-positive staccato that only finds a coherent melody every now and then. The violins under the piano stop it from losing its marbles completely.

It sounds like an all-or-nothing moment, but me being me, I don’t think it only applies to Yuna & Co. This is also Yu Yevon’s last struggle to keep his city “alive”; this track accompanies a fight that is so much more than just good vs bad. Whichever one of them wins, something will die and something will survive. If Yu wins, Yuna and her team will die, and he’ll likely find a way to scramble back into another Sin. If Yuna wins, Yu and his entire home will die. As the players, we can say Oh, but it’s only a dream anyway, it’s not real! but from his perspective, it is very real, it is real enough for him to have given over his entire existence to protect it.

Mmm. I’m just sayin’, next time you finish this game, spare a thought for the poor mess that was once a great, if not the greatest, summoner.
